General Knowledge of the USGBC and its LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) green building rating program.  An understanding of the environmental impacts of buildings in five broad categories of site, water, energy efficiency, material resources, and indoor environment.

Heather DeGrella, Project Manager and LEED Accredited Professional, Lake Flato Architects

Over the past five years, Heather helped lead the creation of the USGBC Central Texas – Balcones Chapter as a member of the Steering Committee.  She currently serves as Chair of the Chapter’s Board of Directors.  Heather also serves as an advisor to the Metropolitan Partnership for Energy in its development of Build San Antonio Green – San Antonio’s Residential Green Building Program, and as an active advocacy member of the AIA’s Committee on the Environment.

Heather has frequently presented on the USGBC and its LEED rating system to various organizations, including the San Antonio AIA, the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence, HUD and Trinity University.  She has been a guest reviewer and speaker on sustainability for multiple design studios at the UTSA School of Architecture and San Antonio Community College.  Heather is currently working on the design of an Arboretum in Ridgly, Maryland which has the goal of a Gold LEED rating as well as a Zero Energy Homes pilot study in collaboration with CPS Energy.
